Looks like the buzz was quite off base. Where is the Netherlands?
It’s not off-based (well depends on what you use as ‘base’):
- Spain is a clear favourite among football fans.
- Italy, Germany, Argentina, France, Brazil, and England all have won the World Cup before and are considered “Big Teams”.
- Mexico’s second religion is football (plus they have Chicarito).
- USA had been involved in major WC dramas and was getting heaps of exposure.
- South Africa hosts the event.
Netherlands, sorry to say, hasn’t been the most exciting team to watch despite their winnings. They just weren’t on the radar.
ps: happy to see that Argentina and Brazil have 71% positivity rate :)
